Monday, 9 July 2007, 0600PDT position 33N45, 118W11, at the dock in Rainbow Harbor, Long Beach, CA.
Counting down to our 1300 start off the Point Fermin Light at 33N42, 118W18. Then we pass Santa Catalina Light to port and we are on our way to Hawaii. The weather predictions are really awful. No, not stormy, quite the opposite. At the moment it looks like we will have one or two good days and then we be sailing directly into a huge (hundreds of miles on a side) region of almost no wind at all. No way to go around. Just plug along and hope it will go away. The long range forcasts for the other side of the hole look good. Smooth sailing to Hawaii.
Skipper and Navigators meeting last night followed by a Banquet. Noisy. Glad to be back on the boat. This crew has been through so much the race itself is almost an anti-climax. (Almost.)

Dear Lindsey and company,
Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your adventure. I will be with you in spirit as you navigate your way home. Fair winds ...
Chris
I am gathering the troops to blow you through the hole. I'm spiritually with you every nautical inch urging you along. Much love to you all but most special love to the navigator. See you soon.
we're ready to blow all our hot air at you! it may take a while to get there from MI but we're pushing :)
Check out the new Cirrus/Lindsey/Donna mention from Latitude 38 magazine at http://www.latitude38.com/LectronicLat/2007/0707/July09/July9.html .
Sorry to see that the wind Gods apparently won't be helpful this year, but all your fans at Makani Kai know you'll give it your best shot!
See y'all at the finish line...
Rick
