We had a wonderful start. Put in a tack up the coast to help us clear the tip of Catalina and set out across the channel. There were porpoise all around and a pretty good sized California Grey Whale was on a collision course with us until about one hundred feet away when he went tail up. We saw him later off in the distance. There were curious seals all afternoon and through the night.
After clearing the west end of Catalina Island (just barely) we have had some little puffs of good wind and we thought we were on our way, but then (again and again) it would go light and come at us from exactly the direction we wanted to sail.

It was great to watch the start from shore. Easy to pick out Cirrus with the bright green crew shirts :)
I was glad I didn't go on a boat because security at LAX was insane and I surely would have missed my flight.
I met a photographer with a telephoto lens, so we may get some pictures of Cirrus at the start!
